Langstrasse
Something is going on in District 5: while rents are exploding and old-established shops are coming under pressure, large chains are renting one store after another, and the car park has become the target of real estate companies. At the same time, innovative residential and commercial projects provide alternatives. Housing cooperatives are redeveloping their settlements, the "educational mile" is continuing to grow.
In addition to the large and medium-sized players in the neighbourhood, there is now a one which is small, but which has some plans: the gim5i+ association has successfully applied to the city of Zurich to rent the store at Langstrasse 200 / corner of Neugasse and wants to set up a hub for the neighbourhood there: A stage for local and neighbouring Zurich (small) businesses, a laboratory for start-ups and bottom-up companies, space for social and cultural commitment. In this space as many people as possible are welcome to experiment and discuss, for and among neighbours, for the local neighbourhood in the wide world: What makes the front District 5 alive, what is good for residents and working people, for learners and visitors? What can they all share, and how? Langstrasse 200 turns sharing into a concept by looking for very different subtenants and partners: office, sales room (shop-in-shop, pop-up-store) and café during the day, meeting place for clubs or neighbours in the evening and later, setting for a dance course, a reading or a film night... As long as there is space, every corner can become a venue.
Partners, helpers and interested parties are welcome - if they want to live in an open society.
